Alexia Banner Message

Wow! It has been an exciting and busy two weeks in Jaguar Country. We celebrated with our middle school Honor Roll students, cheered on our athletes at CHAMPS, sent teams to a robotics competition and Educators Rising, and hosted an incredible virtual opportunity for students to interact with leaders in science and research.

We are also gearing up for the start of spring sports, including boys’ and girls’ soccer, track and field, baseball, and softball. Our SAC committee met to share ideas for improving our school, and we closed out the week with a sports award ceremony honoring both academic and athletic excellence.

Looking ahead, our Drill and Marksmanship teams will travel to Naples for their annual competition. We are also planning an open JAG celebration on March 2 for high school students who earned Principal’s Honor Roll and High Honor Roll. All Honor Roll students will receive a certificate, and we will communicate directly with each student and family—please check your email next week!

AI continues to be a major topic of conversation, and many are wondering how this powerful tool will shape our world—and our schools. Our students are already using AI in a variety of ways, not all of which support learning. Sigonella Middle High School has been selected as a pilot school for AI implementation. Beginning with our high school students, teachers will lead a training session on productive, responsible, and appropriate use of AI in learning environments. This session will take place during the first part of Seminar on March 2, followed by the rollout of an official AI platform through Google. We will also host a parent forum in April to bring our entire learning community into the conversation. Full disclosure! I used AI to edit this newsletter for grammar, clarity, and tone, however, I wrote the entire piece first and used AI as a tool, not as an author!

Finally, I want to highlight an opportunity for students in grades 10–12 to take the ASVAB here at school on April 8. The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Career Exploration Program (ASVAB CEP) is one of the most widely used multiaptitude assessments in the world. It helps students identify their strengths, understand their interests and work values, and explore aligned postsecondary options. While the ASVAB may be used for entry into the armed services, it is equally valuable for students exploring civilian career pathways. Scores are only reported to military services if requested by the student. Check out the flyer and contact our school liaison officer christopher.mckibbin@dodea.edu

We are excited to share that our Sig’s Bigs Mentoring Program officially launched in January and is already making a positive impact on our school community. The program currently includes 10 high school mentors paired with 10 elementary mentees, creating meaningful one-on-one connections each week. Through guided conversations, academic support, and positive role modeling, our high school students are developing leadership skills while helping younger Jaguars build confidence and a stronger connection to school. We are proud of the way our students are stepping up to support one another and strengthen our Jaguar family.
